Just got a 250EX in for axle bearing replacement and found the differential was basically junk. There was alot of wear on the ring gear, the pinion was bouncing everywhere because of bad bearings, and the ring gear bearings were frozen up, to the point where they started to spin in the diff cases. I started pricing parts out for this and was over $600 at retail and still wasn't done, not including labor. It looked like this thing was headed for the scrap yard or to get parted out. That's when I took a better look at the parts diagram and saw Honda sells the differential COMPLETE, assembled, ready to bolt on. With a retail price of $233. So if any of you guys with a shaft-drive quad are in need of a differential rebuild, be sure to price the whole assembly before you start ordering individual parts. You just might save a bundle of money.
