Name: Rich Yaslik
Age: 39
Hometown: Youngstown
Years Riding: 32
Machine/mods: Which one? OK, we'll go with the two you'll see me riding the most.
2003 Lonestar 250R
-Lonestar Baja chassis
-Lonestar A-arms
-Laeger swingarm
-PEP ZPS shocks, front and rear
-RPM Dominator XC axle
-450R brake conversion, front and rear
Motor mods
-86 transmission, 87-89 long-rod Fischer stroker crank
-86 cylinder, the porting is a secret
-89 clutch update
-Magura hydraulic clutch
-stock Honda pipe, FMF silencer
-For me, this is the ultimate tight woods quad, smooth predictable power and only 45" wide
at the rear wheels.
2004 TRX450R
-HRC kit
-Elka suspension, front and rear with the Elka linkage
-Fischer/JB +1 1/4" swingarm
-PEP stabilizer
-IMS pegs
-Pro-armour chassis skid, Pro-tect swingarm skid
Sponsors: none. I have a great hookup with OEM and aftermarket parts, so I don't seek out sponsors.
Single or married: single
Kids? none
Do you have any other toys or hobbies outside of riding and racing? Doesn't everybody? I've done the old car thing, now they're both sitting in storage. Someday, when I retire from racing, I'll go back to them.
Favorite track: Any track that's tight and technical. In the CRA it would have to be Mine Run. My favorite GNCC track is the Ironman.
Favorite rider (GNCC or other): Has to be Barry Hawk, nobody else is even close.
Things you do to make sure race day goes as planned (during the week)? My prep starts the minute the quad is unloaded after a race on Sunday. A thorough washing and inspection, make notes on what needs attention for the next week (if that quad is scheduled to go racing), and order parts if needed. I keep a good inventory of stuff on hand, so unless it's something major, I probably have it. Especially for the 250R.
Who do you look up to? My parents. And my 96 year old great-grandmother, it wasn't always easy for her, but she never complains.
What drives you to race, and why? So far this year, I'm not sure if I even still have the drive. I have always set my expectations high. I don't want to seem cocky, I know everybody wants to win, but I expect to win every time I pull up to that starting line. I am never happy with second place. So far this year, I have been beaten by people I know I can win against, and this is unacceptable.
If gas prices wasnt an issue, where would you like to take your quad to race or ride? Either Glamis or St. Anthony's
What would your dream machine be other than your current ride? This is a hard one. If I could get my hands on a brand new, still in the crate , '88 250R, I'd be a very happy person. If we're talking cars, I think I'd give everything else I own for a '69 Ram Air IV Trans Am. Four-speed, of course.
