Looks like the top ring wore a pretty nasty groove at the top of its travel. If that groove is more than about .002 inches deep, or it's uneven around the cylinder, you should get a new cylinder or get that one replated. Midwest action cycle has new cylinders for about $220. http://www.midwestactioncycle.com/ Just click on the OEM parts finder and select your model. At that price for new, it almost isn't worth replating.

(Yes I'll let ya borrow it if it'll work) It's a special puller that comes with a protective cap for the end of the crank. The end of the crank has an oil feed hole and it is recommended that you don't push on this without the cap. I have the puller, and you're to borrow it, or just bring the motor and I'll pull it for you. While we're at it, if you have your clutch cover off, I'll take off the balancer nut. You'll need this removed if you're going to split the cases. I have the tool for that too. The Nikasil is definitely worn on the cylinder, and like Lee said, replating is an option, but a new cylinder is about the same price.

The one I have is for an RMZ250, but it came with a protective cap for crank ends. Appaerntly it works for CRF 450 cranks too
