Inaugural Tim "Smoothy" Rutherford Memorial / $2000 Pro Quad / $1000 to WINRESCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 12TH, 2009 @ LAKEVILLE SPEEDWAYOhio Outlaw Motorsports announces the August 23rd Rutherford Memorial flat track race at Lakeville Speedway has been rescheduled for Saturday night, September 12th. Rescheduling of the event is due to a court mandate that prohibits Lakeville Speedway from hosting a Sunday motorsports event in addition to regularly scheduled Friday night stock car racing.
OOM proprietors Adam Campbell and Bob Sigler are disappointed with the rescheduling on short notice, but remain optimistic about better racing conditions at Lakeville under the lights. The Rutherford Memorial Pro Quad race includes a $2,000 purse, paying $1,000 to win. Campbell and Sigler applaud the efforts of Lakeville Speedway to keep the original date, noting that Lakeville did everything imaginable to prevent rescheduling the event. OOM also thanks Eric Ashcraft of All Outdoors Productions for spearheading the Rutherford Memorial and generating the overwhelming sponsorship backing of the unprecedented race.
“This was not an instance where a decision had to be made,” says Adam Campbell, “the situation was completely out of our hands, forcing us to take the best action as quickly as possible, a little over five days before an event that racers have really been looking forward to.”
“We are certainly disappointed,” adds Bob Sigler, “but rest assured in the loyal support of sponsors, race teams, spectators, and are confident they are well aware Ohio Outlaw Motorsports does everything possible to overcome any adversity.”
In order to move the race date to Saturday night, September 12th, OOM must restructure the race program to accommodate a previously scheduled dirt track race in the Buckeye state. Triangle Motorcycle Club hosts a two day half-mile at Richwood fairgrounds the very same weekend, so OOM will not offer the full class listing for motorcycles, including the Pro Bike division.
“Early in the planning stages of the Rutherford Memorial we discussed with TMC the possibility of other circumstances prompting a September 12th schedule conflict,” says Sigler, “Triangle is very understanding of our situation, and we feel the honorable thing is to focus on the quads for this one event, and encourage our motorcycle racers to support the TMC Richwood half-mile.”
OOM will offer the complete quad class listing, but limit the bike program to the regular youth motorcycle divisions and one knobby bike division. Additional schedule changes and amendments include cancellation of the September 5th OOM race at Lakeville, but Campbell and Sigler continue negotiations to add a possible two-day event in early October, hoping to announce that within the next two weeks.
