i just finished a 400ex.

it is a 2005 and it hasnt been touched since then. i had a ten lbs sledge with pb- wd-40 and heat and i could not get the swing arm bolt out. a simple job of replacing them bearings took way to long as i had to cut the swing arm bolt from the quad. once it was cut and the swinger free it was back to progress and installed in a timely manner. but i had to do alot of extra work, remove the rear master cylinder/ seperate the brake line. reinstall and bleed the rear brakes, no biggie but it could have been avoided with a little maintenance.

get on your quad, stand up and rock from peg to peg transfering your weight. does it feel like its rocking? or you could jack up your quad under the motor letting the swinger hang, then from behind see if you can wiggle your axle and your swinger at the frame. if you can at these 2 points you need to replace the bearings at that point. check your axle nut while your there.
